Driving in Nakhon Phanom

I was debating about writing this story of driving in my home area.  Living outside of town, 13 kilometers, you see so many wrong things that you accept as normal. In this area, I would say that 50% of the drivers of motorcycles and autos/trucks are driving illegally without a Thai Drivers License, and definitely without any insurance.  No Liability insurance requirements, let me take that back.  There is some sort of insurance on your vehicle annual registration.  If you have a loan on your vehicle or drive a new vehicle you are required to have insurance.  Many vehicle homicides the person flees the scene.  It scares me to think how my life could be ruined in an event of a vehicle accident, even if the cause was not my fault.  Here is recent drive downtown along the Mekong River. http://youtu.be/tDOEN5GcHr4?list=UUDPTITfTGkb5tlGm7tOtioA Downtown parking, I should say lack of parking, causes many traffic problems.  Dodging motorcycles o...

Our Home Now and Future Plans

Image
Above is our Thai home view. We started to clean-up around the house the day after I made this panoramic view photo. Right now Pet and I are contemplating projects and appliances to improve the house and our way to live more comfortable. Inside painting is already planned after rainy season. Previously, we wanted to add additional room on the backside to be used for storage, laundry room, outdoor toilet. Now, the topic of discussion is to put in our own WATER Well, pump, storage, and filter system. This tank they believe has deteriorated inside, possible corrosion, and they are scared to climb and get inside the tank for inspection or repairs. Most residents collect rain water for drinking purposes, we buy our water. But we do use the village water for showering, laundry, and general cleaning inside and outside. We just paid our water ...

Return to Esan My Second Home 2014

Return to Esan or Issan more known as Northeast Thailand, my location is in Nakhon Phanom Province and is still years behind most of Thailand. It's economy and way of life is still at the poorest end of Thailand's people. My home looked like it had aged 5 years, yet it only been 16 months since leaving. The black mildew was randomly located all around the white walls of the house the walls around the around the house. When in fact was repainted just 4 years ago in 2010. The weather here is harsh on any structure, the hot Sun year long or the severe Monsoon season of wind and rain. Our plan was to paint the inside of our home this trip. Being built in 2003 we felt it would be time to do it. Covering the many of the thin crack lines on the walls and Gecko lizard messy markings. Thai paint back then was not best, nor did my builder choose the highest quality of paint. Throughout our whole village all the dwellings were no better and vegetation was way out of control. Hec...
